“Teenagers today are too obsessed with their looks. Many of them consider getting plastic surgery to alter their appearance.”
I think that teenagers today are not intensively obsessed with their looks but however just too little too self-conscious. With the rapid change of modernised hairstyles and fashion craze, the society (especially teenagers) are trying their very best to fit into the crowd. Most of the teenagers' fashion styles are similar, as observed. Majority of them have fringes covering their eyes or slightly above their eyebrows, wear thick make-up, wear skimpy clothes or undersized 'old school' T-shirts. With the familiarized look, people expand their range of offensive vocabulary to others who do not have the same style as them such as calling names, appending peer pressure to the rest and influencing them to transform.
Majority of teenagers are also going for similar products and fashion styles such as the new 'vintage' look. These are not surprising. Fashion designers have found their new craze and proceed by attacking them with massive production of similar clothes and accessories. They are now found everywhere and are not difficult to buy them, this add on to the effortless consumption of fashion styles. This has familiarized with the society and is no longer an obsession, but a habit.
However, the massive progress of different fashion styles has farrago of half-baked ideas.
Having plastic surgery is very subjective. It could be just a morsel of life, where people could not stand the insults and criticisms from other people about their appearances. It could also be out of jealousy, fanatic ambitions of looking like a certain celebrity, or to make themselves more attractive and appealing to men. Many whom are brave enough and are unsatisfied of their appearance would very much take up plastic surgery to gratify themselves. They would then reappraise themselves and are much more contented and happy.
I find plastic surgeries aberrant. I am a christian and I personally believe that God made us this way, and that we should not make adjustments to our body, especially trying to look like someone else, even if it involves risking disfigurement and mutilation. Even if the plastic surgery is successful, the next thing we might worry of is criticisms and insults. People would be in mystification of her primordial beauty and assume that she was an 'ugly duckling' trying to be a 'swan'. Thus, people, probably out of jealousy would start throwing her insults. Such examples are our Singapore's famous blogger, Dawn Yang.
Thus, it is better not to do plastic surgeries! :D
