I strongly agree to this statement. Firstly, it is to be emphasised that most teenagers today are spending large amounts of money so that they can look better. They all have a common belief that looks are very important and that without looks, one might as well be dead. Hence, it brings us back to the fact that large amounts of money are spent so that they can look better. It is to be believed that, perhaps they consider plastic surgery as nothing but simply another stepping stone towards "perfection".
Secondly, most teenagers are unaware of the risks behind plastic surgery, otherwise, as they call it, they are willing to sacrifice anything for the mere sake of beauty. For the mere sake of beauty, they are willing to sacrifice their lives, ties with family members and relationships with friends.
Everything comes with a price, no pain no gain. Teenagers may be far too young and insensible for plastic surgery should they not know the heavy price they have to pay for it. First, on the outside, there is the cost to be considered. Even though the cost of plastic surgery is not as high as before, it is still a rather costly and unnecessary operation. The operation costs per year can feed the whole Singapore for two whole years. Therefore, it is concluded that instead of wasting money and having an operation just for the sake of beauty, why not help those who are in desperate need of food, money?
Secondly, there is the inner circle. The integrity, once one has a plastic surgery, one would not be the same again, in terms of appearance and character. On the bright side, one will gain confidence but it may lead to over-confidence; one will definitely be beautified, but it is worth the cost? The answer would be "no". The person will no longer be the same again and thus people will find it difficult to understand the person again.
Some teenagers even fall out with their family and friends who object to them taking the operation. They may even start to look down on others who look worse than them, and thus forget their roots, where they began at.
Thus, in conclusion, be aware of one's appearance is good but being over aware can have some seriously drastic effects on one's psychological thinking. Teenagers should be aware of the heavy price they have to pay should they choose to have plastic surgery, it comes with a heavy price. Beauty is not everything.
